Lou Lou’s Wellness offers evidence-based nutrition counseling/coaching and nutrition education for individuals. My mission is to team up with my clients and through supportive collaboration, empower them to take control of their overall wellness and health through whole food plant-based nutrition and sustainable lifestyle practices. We are based out of New York but since we are an online service, we can work with you from anywhere via virtual consultations through Online/Video chat.

 

As a holistic nutritionist, I evaluate the complete health history, emotional state, lifestyle habits and current diet habits of an individual to determine the root cause of his or her nutrition issues. I use evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle techniques to promote a state of well-being for optimum health.

Hi Everyone! I’m Lou!

 

I am a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and Optometrist.

 

Growing up, I was always doing something physical.  I loved being outside riding my bike and popping wheelies or roller blading around the local park or racing the boys in the school yard.  In high school I played basketball (Yes, all 5 feet 1 and 3/4 inches of me).  My family has always loved food but healthy options were not a priority.

 

I was fortunate that I was a teenage athlete with a fast metabolism. Like many, when I left for college, my physical activity took a nose dive. The unhealthy food choices still continued and caught up with me in the form of weight gain and fatigue.  It was not until a couple of years into optometry school that my fitness journey began again with group fitness classes.

 

I found CrossFit in my early thirties and fell in love. My life revolved around CrossFit. I got my Level 1 Certification a year in and began coaching soon after that. It was then that I found my love for training and helping others reach their fitness goals.

I have tried loads of fad diets. They all had their "positives" but in some way felt very restrictive. I was counting calories and macros and weighing and measuring food. While studying for my holistic nutritionist certification, I discovered the plant-based diet. The research regarding the health benefits of a plant-based diet was undeniable and so I decided to try it. Since going plant-based, I have never felt better. I have more energy day to day and for my workouts and I sleep better.  Physically, I am leaner, my skin is clearer and more vibrant and I have no digestive issues.

 

From my professional experience as an optometrist, I have witnessed the ocular repercussions of different systemic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, stroke, arthritis and other chronic diseases.

Unfortunately, treatment of these diseases is the primary focus rather than the prevention of them.  Research has shown that with a proper diet and a positive lifestyle, these and many other conditions can be prevented all together.

 

My passion is helping people realize their own potential to take control of their health through sustainable nutrition and lifestyle practices. My aim overall is to try my best to make a positive difference in society and hopefully inspire folks to truly enjoy wholesome, plant-based foods and take charge of their lives along the way.

 

When I’m not working, I make it a point to get up and move my body every day, whether it’s a short and intense interval workout, a long row, yoga or going for a walk.  I enjoy cooking, researching plant-based recipes and recreating them or creating my own. I’m a big film buff and enjoy discovering new music. I prioritize quiet time, reading and self care through mediation. I love spending time with my husband and best friend, Steve, and our two Thundercats, Phoebe 'n' Max.

 

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Manhattanville College in 2003 and with a Doctor of Optometry degree from State University of New York College of Optometry in 2007. I completed a residency in Primary Care/Low Vision Rehabilitation at Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in 2011. I worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Midwestern University - Eye Institute from 2011-2013 and have worked in private practice in both primary care and ocular disease since then. I became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2012. I was a member of the American Diabetic Association Speakers Bureau. I completed CrossFit Level 1 Certification in 2012 and trained at multiple CrossFit gyms. I completed AFPA Holistic Nutritionist Certification in 2017.
